Who we are

Uberspace is not backed by a startup or an anonymous global corporation. We are a small, owner-managed European company of about a dozen individuals who want to make technology accessible, understandable, and manageable for you—and have been doing so since 2010. Formally a sole proprietorship, in reality we behave more like an exceptionally well-organized collective with fewer plenary meetings and a lot of personal responsibility.

We communicate at eye level and treat our users the way we want to be treated by our friends. With us, you can have a coffee, a mate, or a beer with the very people who are building the next feature in Uberspace or installing the next server in the rack.

What we believe in

 

Your data is important to us

Despite our small size, we offer round-the-clock on-call service to ensure your services and websites are always available. In the event of outages affecting entire servers or more, we communicate on our status page. We take security incidents seriously and address them in public so that we can all learn from the situation.

Independence

We own and maintain all of our server hardware ourselves and do not outsource your data to American cloud companies or tech bros. It goes without saying that your data belongs only to you. We do not exploit it for training LLMs and AI models.

No bullshit

We do not lock anyone into contract terms and notice periods; we want you to stay with us because you are happy.

 

Better Together

We are committed to peaceful, tolerant, and respectful coexistence. You can find our values and rules outlined in our house rules. We believe in a strong civil society and fight your rights in court. In addition, we not only take from the open source community, but also give back.

Going the extra mile

We operate multi-redundant storage systems for you, including daily backups, because we know that we all make mistakes sometimes and there are never enough backups.

Privacy first

Apart from your email address, we do not collect any personal data from you.

Our team

We’re connected as a team by sharing common beliefs, but not by sharing the same place: What’s called working “remote first” today has been our reality right from the start. We all work from home, across Germany and Austria. This provides us with a lot of flexibility and freedom. Frequent video meetings and visiting each other in person helps keeping in touch. Twice a year, we all meet, not only to work together, but also to give room for bonding - and fun, for sure.
